[INTERVIEW] DRINKING RIBENA AND PLANTING MUSHROOMS

The Legends Circuit Qualifiers ended last Saturday and Team KTHXBAI enjoyed a clean 5-game sweep in their group - going even with the Kuala Lumpur Hunters. After the games, I managed to force the twin brothers from KTB: Jonathan "Xare" Chan and Joshua "Ribenamania" Chan to do a 'Twinterview'. Lets see what they have to say!

Note
Blue: Xare
Red: Ribenamania

Once again, as the other interviews, you guys aced the qualifiers, winning all 5 games. How do you guys feel, being back in the scene after the break?
Obviously, I’m very happy as we got 5 – 0. Initially when we were playing our initial 4 games, I had doubts regarding whether or not we could win our last match easily as they look really strong. Also, our bot lane duo was lacking in synergy in the first 4 games. However, moving into game 5, it seemed like everyone was more serious and the game went on better than expected .
It’s great to be back in the league and play as a team. This time with a different role – the Jungler. In fact, I actually got to play 5 different champions in 5 different games. The matches we played today were good and we’re all hyped up for TLC, time for some serious gaming.

KTHXBAI underwent a massive overhaul and a change in the roster with 4 of the main players (Ashdragon, wcws, Solo and Vyprex leaving) and adding in Demon, Mashiro and Fappy. Could you give us a brief summary of each player?
ArchBishop Demon:
Basically after our previous top laner Solo decided to stop playing competitively, we needed to find a new top laner. Demon happened to be in Challenger and he was interested in joining our team, so we recruited him.
Solo decided to retire from competitive League, and since I felt Demon is one of the best top laners in the MY server, I recommended him to the team after seeing him play Shyvana in Solo Queue.

Mashiro Yuki:
Initially, the 5th member of the team was going to be Bishop BunnyJack. However, I felt that he was a bit lacking in the mechanics department, and we needed a stronger jungler. Thus, we got Mashiro as our ad and swapped ribenamania to the jungle. He looked strong at the end of Season 3 and he was a Challenger. However, we realized he had quite a small champion pool and also lacked experience in competitive games; sometimes being too aggressive and opting to extend his welcome in lane. He still needs to learn how to play as a team rather than his "YOLO" queue style.
A "derp" player that somehow got into challenger. This guy is special. He can make as many plays as his mistakes. He has good mechanics, but needs to play with more calmness, discipline and confidence. Reason he’s in the team? He’s bald.

Bishop Fappy:
Fappy came along with Demon when we needed a new support. There really aren't many good support players in MY so we just picked him.
Initially he was going to be my support, played a couple of games with him and realized that he is pretty good. He understands how to play the bot-lane, and is very enthusiastic in playing at a higher level. Hopefully he’ll be able to carry Mashiro Yuki.

Instead of Ashdragon feeding Ribenamania with Ribena drinks at the bot lane, you (Ribenamania) decided to drink it in the jungle as you are now the jungler. Can you give us yout thoughts on swapping into the jungle?
Basically, I felt that a strong jungler is very important in competitive plays. A jungler needs to be able to make plays and help the lanes snowball. We needed a better jungler so we swapped ribena to the jungle. Another reason was because I felt that ribena is better off as a jungler to avoid conflict between the duo laners.
I find it very difficult to form synergy with the support as a Marksman. Following the retirement of Ashdragon, I decided to play in a different role. At the start of S4, I duo-ed with Xare and played mainly the Jungle role, it worked out pretty well. Playing as a Jungler, I am able to make more plays and synergize with the mid laner. Also, the changes made in the game opened up the opportunity for Junglers to be super rich, and carry games.

Would you care to explain the Xare-Ribena twin brother synergy for us?
From left: Xare - Ribenamania
The synergy between us is strong. We know what to do when Ribenamania comes to gank my lane and if he is able to help me win the lane, we are able to roam bot or top for a 3/4 man dive followed by objectives.
It’s like our minds are alike. It is very easy to set up ganks at mid since I can expect him to do what’s needed to be done (When to gank, who to engage, which target to aim). After winning his lane, we will be able to roam more and make plays happen. Better watch out for ganks at the mid-lane when playing against us.

How was the transition period like? Did you guys suddenly get stronger or weaker, and were there any synergy issues?
Initially I felt that the team got stronger, but later on, I felt like we've gotten a lot weaker due to issues regarding synergy and teamwork. Some players are not that experienced in playing a team game and do not know what to do at a point in the game. However, I think the team is strong now; not sure if it is stronger than before but we were actually able to win iSg.Exile in one of our scrims.
At some times, the team seems weaker. At other times, the team seems to be very solid. We had really tough games against some amateur teams, and also got to beat some stronger teams. I guess we just need more training, and understand our play styles individually and also as a team.

You guys actually faced NtL in the 1st match. What do you think of them with the current roster, as they dropped quite a number of games during the qualifier?
Hmm, I have no idea. I think Tracy is a good jungler. Poromancer is also quite decent [Editor's Note : :D] but the Xerath pick didn’t really work out for them.
The NtL we faced today was a totally different from the team last season. They had a lot of roster changes and I feel that the team is not as strong now. However, there’s still time and we shall see how they fare in the future.

What do you think of new teams like Mirrors who pulled an upset onto NTL – 3rd in TLC last season
Mirrors is a good team, with decent members. I think their bot lane is quite strong and they will be one of the strong teams in TLC.
There are a lot of good players in Mirror, and it definitely wasn’t luck that they were able to beat NTL. They are still a new team and we can look forward to their games.

What do you think can be done better by the team since it’s still quite new with all the roster changes going on?
The team needs to be more consistent and treat every game seriously. Mashiro needs to learn more champions and learn to play as a team. To be honest, I actually think that we just have to be more serious in ‘easy’ matches and in every scrim and to play with our full potential. However, sometimes, everyone loves slacking and to go "YOLO" for a bit.
The team is still new and we’re have a lack of training. We’ll need to play more together to have better synergy with one another. We are all hyped up after going 5 – 0 in the qualifiers, hopefully we won’t be dispirited when we actually lose a game in the course of TLC.

Seeing as both of you are the only players left in KTB from the original roster, do you think you can continue the “Glory”?
There aren’t really many spectacular teams in Malaysia at the moment. Thus, I’m still confident that we will be able to get at least top 3 in the coming TLC. However, I am not sure if there are good teams in group B - the ex-KLH Team Passby, or not?
Yes, we’ll definitely try our best to continue on this “Glory”

So, what are your goals for this TLC.MY?
My goal is definitely to get at least top 2 and get to play in TLC finals. I really want to be at least 2nd place in the TLC Finals- that is if we actually manage to get there.
My goal is to be the number 1 team in TLC.MY.

Anything you want to tell the supporters?
Thank you for all the supporters of Team KTHXBAI, we hope we won’t disappoint you and we’ll do our best.
Thank you for all the supporters, please continue to cheer for us. All of you are the reason we’re playing competitively.

KTHXBAI

Before we close, I realized that you (Xare) actually picked Teemo in one of the matches. Do you mind commenting on that? Is Teemo viable as a competitive pick now?
I first saw Teemo picked in competitive play when C9 Hai used it against TSM in the first week of NA.LCS. After that, I got crushed in solo queue by a Teemo as Riven in mid lane. Thus, I feel that it is actually viable if it is played correctly. In that game, we had a Kha'zix who could clean up when the enemies get low after stepping on the teemo-shrooms. Honestly, Teemo is just OP. So OP. Super OP OP OP OP OP OP!

Any other players/managers you want us to interview? Send it to use at our Facebook page and we will try out best to get them in the near future!
